reflexology
What is reflexology?
Reflexology is based on an ancient Eastern healing tradition that all parts of our body are connected by energy pathways. Eastern countries have used this way of healing for centuries. Reflexology (as it is known in the western world) has only been practiced for the last 70 years. Reflexology works on the principle that all of the body's organs, systems are structures are reflected in the feet. These mirrored areas are known as a 'reflex'. By applying pressure to these reflexes we stimulate these areas encouraging healing. Releasing areas of tension helps energy flow more freely throughout the body.
What are the benefits of reflexology?
Anything that impedes the natural flow of the body systems causes stress within the body. Factors such as stress, poor diet, lack of water, exercise, human contact and joy throw the body out of balance. Reflexology sessions can have a great effect, breaking down stress in the body. The session induces a deep state of relaxation which is a major contribution to the return of health.
Because of all of the above benefits Reflexology is commonly used to treat a variety of complaints, including:
What can I expect from a treatment?
For the first session we will go through a detailed health, diet and lifestyle questionnaire which should take around 15 minutes. Afterwards I will ask you to remove your footwear. You will then be seated in a reclining chair and covered with a blanket to keep you warm. The treatment will begin with some gentle relaxation techniques followed by applying pressure to each reflex point on both feet. If at any time you feel any tenderness or pain just let me know and I can work the area in a different way to help. This is nothing to worry about, a tender area may just indicate that a reflex is out of balance.
After the session I will make notes so that improvements can be noted at future appointments.
Can anyone have reflexology?
It is a safe treatment that is available to the majority of people. although there are a few factors which would prevent a massage treatment, these include:
Is medical supervision required?
If you are currently receiving medical treatment for a condition it may be necessary for you to seek advice from your GP before treatment. For example if you are having treatment for diabetes, unstable or high blood pressure, epilepsy or a heart condition, then you will need to talk to your GP before treatment. If you are in any doubt as to whether medical supervision is needed please call me to discuss.
What happens after the treatment?
We will have a short discussion about the treatment and discuss ideas for maintaining wellbeing. Because of the stimulating effects of the treatment, you may feel some mild ill effects after a session, for example:
Each individual will vary and some people will experience no ill effects at all. If you do experience some side effects do not worry this is a positive reaction to the body cleansing and re-balancing itself. Once any mild ill effects have passed you should feel in much better health. If you continue to have a regular course of treatments these symptoms will lessen, as the toxic build up in the body is cleared.
"This is my first experience of reflexology and it's been the bee's knees! (funny expression that, when my feet are now flowing with energy, malleable and glowing). Now I am truly grounded and I feel great" Ralph - September 2008 To book an appointment or discuss a treatment telephone me on 07976 550909 or 01451 870937
